Chances of nuclear deal fade in Geneva
The nuclear talks between Iran and the Six Powers go into their third day Friday amid fading optimism about an accord. The Iranians refuse to back down from their demand for recognition of their “right to enrichment” plus early sanctions relief, but say they are ready to continue negotiations even if they drag on into Saturday. European sources claim unconvincingly that the talks are substantially narrowing the gaps between the sides. In Washington, Secretary of State John Kerry was still insisting, “We have the best chance we’ve had in a decade, we believe, to halt progress and roll back Iran’s program.”
