Chief Rabbi Lau calls on European Jews to keep their ‘kippot’ on
Israel's Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau on Wednesday urged European Jews not to remove their "kippot" in public despite the increase in violence against Jews on the continent. He also called on European governments to boost security for Jewish communities.
Lau's comment came after Zvi Ammar, head of the Jewish community in Marseilles, called on French Jews to temporarily refrain from wearing the head covering in public in order to avoid anti-Semitic attacks, igniting a controversy. French President Francois Hollande said it would be "intolerable" for Jews to have to take such a step.
