China sends first top official to Trump’s Washington
State Councilor Yang Jiechi, former foreign minister and ambassador to the US, is the first senior Chinese official to visit Washington since President Donald Trump took office, amid uncertainty about relations and security tensions in eastern Asia. He arrived in Washington Monday for two days to “exchange views on bilateral ties and issues of mutual concern” with high-ranking US officials. Last week, Premier Li Keqiang expressed hope that disputes with Trump's government could be settled amicably, saying that a trade war would "benefit nobody."
