Chuck Hagen endorsed as US defense secretary after two week delay

After four Republicans switched sides to join Democrats, his nomination was confirmed by a vote of 58-41. It was stalled by claims that former Senator Hagel was soft on Iran and too critical of Israel. President Barack Obama stood his ground on the appointment.
