Clashes among Jewish worshipers at Western Wall – Kotel

Jerusalem police were trying to separate between two angrily clashing groups at the Kotel on Friday morning. A large group of Jewish Conservative and Reform religious women gathered at the holy site on Friday morning to mark 30 years of their battle for freedom of religious practice there and international women’s day. They were challenged by ultra-orthodox (Haredi) men who turned out in response to their rabbis’ call to protest this demonstration.  Police stepped in to stop the clashes. On Temple Mount above the Kotel ,separate, reinforced police forces stood by for Muslim disturbances centering on the dispute over the Golden Gate. Israel and Jordan have been in discussion all week for a compromise agreement.
