Clinton in Istanbul: We have planned for contingency of chemical weapons use in Syria
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Saturday after meeting Turkish leaders and Syrian opposition figures in Istanbul: “We have undertaken very intensive operational planning and it needs to be across both our governments.” Speaking alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Davutoglu, she said US and Turkish intelligence services and military will be setting up a working group to plan for many contingencies “including the very horrible scenario of the use of chemical weapons.”
Asked if their talks had covered imposing a no-fly zone over territory controlled by Syrian rebels, she indicated that it was a possible option.
