Comey says he made memos of talks with Trump to defend himself
James Comey, ex-director of the FBI, stated during his testimony on Thursday that he made memos of his conversations with US President Donald Trump because he had a feeling that he would need them at a later date, saying “I knew there might come a day when I might need a record of what happens, not only to defend myself but to defend the FBI and our integrity as an institution and the independent investigative function.” Comey said he had not made such memos of his conversations with the two previous presidents when he served under their administrations. He added that Trump was not under any FBI investigation while he was the bureau's director.
