Conflicting accounts on death of Haqqani chief by US drone
Pakistani military and intelligence officials say a US drone killed Badruddin Haqqani, commander of the jihadi network behind some of the most high-profile attacks on NATO and the Kabul government in Afghanistan, during a series of drone attacks last week on North Waziristan. One official said he fled the compound after it was hit by a missile, but was killed when a second struck his car.
Pakistani Taliban and tribal sources said they believed Badruddin was killed in the drone attack. Afghanistan's Taliban movement, allies of the Haqqani network, said Badruddin was alive.
