There were 4,347 confirmed coronavirus cases in Israel on Monday morning, 100 up from 4,247 Sunday night, with 80 in serious condition. The death toll rose to 16. Nearly all the victims were over 80 with background ailments. Unemployment surged on Monday to 22pc with 780,000 registered jobless, most of them sent on unpaid leave by failing or shuttered places of unemployment. The government has promised to release before Passover an economic package to help people and businesses hard hit by the pandemic.
