Coronavirus infection topped by 714 to record 7,096 active cases
The rise of covid-19 infection in Israel hit another record on Tuesday with 714 new confirmed cases – mainly the result of increased testing: 18,624 tests on Monday compared with 10,387 on the previous day. The proportion of positive tests also increased slightly from 3.7pc to 3.8pc – another figure which worries the Health Ministry.
One person died of coronavirus in the past 24 hours raising the death toll total since the outbreak began to 320. The number of serious cases remains relatively low at 44 with 24 on respirators.
The hospitality industry staged the largest protest to date – more than 5,000 demonstrators – against the government over the hopeless situation of hotels and their staff, travel agents, tourist guides, luxury transport, gift shops and other groups who served the vanished tourist. They followed other sectors staging daily demonstrations over being cast into disastrous straits by four months without income – and no prospects.
