Coup reported ongoing in Sudan
Clashes in Sudan interrupted state TV broadcasts from the Omdurman studio Saturday fueling reports of an ongoing coup d’etat in Sudan. Unconfirmed reports said that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had seized the presidential palace, the army chief’s residence and Khartoum international airport on Saturday, amid clashes with the national army. Fatalities were reported as gunmen appeared on the streets of the capital and other cities.
The outbreaks come amid talks on integrating the RSF into the army as part of the process for returning civilian rule to Sudan. The talks were marred by an argument over who would be the senior partner of the coalition.
