Court limits to 2 days remand of fugitive terrorist’s father
A district court in Haifa turned down the police request for a 12-day detention order against Mohammed Melhem, the father of fugitive terrorist Nashat Melhem, and limited his confinement to two days. He is charged with assisting in the commission of murder, obstructing justice and membership of an illegal organization. The gunman’s brother Jawad Melhem was released and placed under five-day house arrest. The three women related to the fugitive, including his mother, were freed earlier by the police.
DEBKAfile: The court's decision, a major setback for the investigation, came in response to the police chief Roni Alsheikh’s directive to withhold information from the court as well as the public.
