“All seven Israelis have been released, since 10 a.m.,” police spokesman Christos Andreou told AFP on Sunday. “The young woman [complainant, a British tourist] will be taken to court on Monday,’ he said. “She faces charges of giving a false statement over an imaginary offense.” The Cypriot police stressed: “Rape never took place.”
Twelve Israelis in all aged 15-18 were arrested in the resort town of Ayia Napa last week after the British woman accessed them of gang rape in her hotel room. Some reportedly admitted to having consensual sex with the woman. Five were released without charge on Friday.
