Czech police arrest Russian hacker in latest twist in US-Russia cyber conflict
The Prague police announced Wednesday that on October 5 it had arrested a Russian hacker suspected of carrying out cyberattacks against American targets who had been operating from hotels in the Czech capital. He was taken into custody under an Interpol arrest warrant requested by the FBI. The suspect, who has only been identified by his first name Yevgeniy, collapsed during the arrest so he was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. The police did not elaborate further on the hacker's identity or the suspicions regarding his activities. The Russian embassy in the Czech Republic submitted a request for the immediate release and handover of the suspect, but the American Justice Department requested a court in Prague to order his extradition to the US.
