Damascus formally asks Russia for assistance

Ali Ahmadi, an adviser to Syrian President Bashar Assad, reported Wednesday that Moscow had joined up to help his country in the employment of its army and especially its air force to “save Syria.” Speaking to the Russian Rossiya-24 TV network, he said that the Russian army was operating on his country’s soil at the invitation and request of the Syrian government.
