Damascus: Rebels confer with Israel on defending Quneitra

DEBKAfile: Even in stormy winter conditions, the Syrian army continued Wednesday to press forward with Iranian, Hizballah and imported Afghani and Pakistani Shiite forces towards the Golan and Israeli lines. Their immediate objective appears to be the lofty Tel al-Hara mountain fortress, which the Syrian army lost to rebel forces. These bunkers, tunnels and defense positions are laid out over tens of kilometers. Syrian sources reported Wednesday that Israel had permitted rebel commanders to cross into the Golan for consultations with IDF officers. Our military sources report that the fall of Tel al-Hara would lay Quneitra open to attack.
