Deep concern in Washington for Jordanian monarchy

A senior US official said this week: “We wish for King Abdullah to bring peace to his kingdom, but we can’t see how he will be able to this.”  He went on to say: “We have given him all the help we could already, and he does not seem to be able to manage.” The official noted that despite the royal decree to lower fuel prices, demonstrations against the Jordan’s dire economic straits continue and are increasingly directed against the monarchy and the king.
