Deep freeze on Syria in Obama-Putin meeting
Presidents Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin ended their meeting at the G8 summit in Northern Ireland Monday night with grudging courtesy. Obama said the meeting was “very useful.” But both sides agreed that they were at odds on the key issues, such as whether Assad should step down and arms supplies to the rebels. Putin allowed they would both try and push the warring parties to the negotiating table, but they failed to agree on the make-up of a conference.
