Deputy Shin Bet Director nominated police commissioner
Minister of Public Security Gilead Erdan has named the deputy director of the Shin Bet internal security agency as the next commissioner of police, after withdrawing his nomination of former general Gal Hirsch. The nominee (whose name is not yet released), 52, commanded the IDF Paratroop Brigade before joining the Shin Bet in 1987. His duties there included command of the West Bank and Jerusalem district. He is married with seven children. The nomination goes to the government for approval and to the Turkel committee which vets senior civil service appointments.
