Dow Jones reaches 20,000-point milestone for the first time
The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a record high of 20,000 points following the opening bell on Wall Street on Wednesday morning. The Dow shows the performance of the 30 biggest publicly-owned US companies, including ones in the defense, banking and insurance fields. The passing of the 20,000-point mark at the start of the third day of the administration of President Donald Trump is seen as an indicator of positive expectations for the US economy and its effect on the global economy. Caterpillar and Boeing were two of the companies whose gains helped push the Dow past the historic mark.
