Drill shows terrorists could enter UK parliament in 5 minutes, kill 100 MPs
In a recent simulated attack, security officers posing as terrorists took five minutes to enter the British parliament building from the River Thames, before reaching the House itself and killing up to 100 members. Watching the security drill which took place during the recess, one member said, “We are sitting ducks.” Officials confirmed Sunday that security lapses have been corrected and an armed guard is now in place at entrances to the historic building including those from the river. They are also calling for a barrier.
Five months ago, Khalid Masood killed five people on Westminster Bridge. On Friday night, a terrorist shouting Allahu Akbar drove a car at police outside Buckingham Palace and reached for a four-foot sword. Two police officers were injured before he was arrested. Scotland Yard said the incident is being treated as terrorism.
