Edelstein resigns as Knesset Speaker, accuses Supreme Court of trashing parliament
Yuli Edelstein stepped down as Knesset Speaker on Wednesday, rather than obey the supreme court ruling ordering him to call a vote on his replacement. He closed the session and adjourned it until next Monday. Edelstein fiercely denounced the Supreme Court action as “unsupported by the letter of the law” and emanating from “biased and radical exegesis.” The judges went against the Knesset regulations “to trash the work of parliament,” the outgoing Speaker said, and accused the judges of committing “an egregious and dangerous error.”
