Egyptian casualties rise to 60 in fierce fighting in Sinai
Egypt's military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Samir, said Wednesday that fighting is still underway in northern Sinai after around 100 Islamist terrorists fired mortar rounds and detonated a suicide car bomb against five Egyptian checkpoints outside Sheikh Zuweid. The Islamic State claimed the attack. The Egyptian death toll has risen to an estimated 60 as clashes continue between the armed forces and terrorists after army reinforcements arrived.
Monday, the country’s top prosecutor was killed in a car bombing on his convoy in Cairo.
