Egyptian Islamists call for destruction of Giza Pyramids, Sphinx

Islamist Sheikh Murgan Salem al-Gohary called in a recent TV interview for the removal of such “idols,” drawing a comparison between the Sphinx and Pyramids and the Buddha statues the Taliban destroyed in Afghanistan. An Egyptian interior ministry source told the London based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that the threat was being taken seriously.
