Egyptian police kill 14 terrorists in Suez Canal city
Egyptian police killed 14 gunmen in Ismailia linked to recent attacks against security forces in northern Sinai, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Saturday without further elaboration. This city of half a million inhabitants is located on the western bank of the Suez Canal international waterway and confirms for the first time that ISIS networks are operating in Suez towns.
Egyptian official sources linked the Ismailia attack to the combined car bomb-gunfire ISIS assault on Sinai checkpoints Friday that left 23 Egyptian troops dead and 33 injured. This linkage, say DEBKAfile military sources, indicates that both attacks were coordinated by terrorist controllers from inside Egypt proper rather than from than Sinai.
