Egyptian state prosecutor assassinated
Egyptian state prosecutor Hisham Barakat was assassinated in Cairo Monday. He died in hospital of injuries he sustained from a bomb which exploded in his car outside his home in the Cairo suburb of Heliopolis. It exploded as he prepared to drive off to his office in a well-guarded convoy. The bomb appears to have been detonated by an assassin waiting in another vehicle nearby. Hisham Barakat was the highest ranking Sisi administration official to be targeted for assassination, which represents a sharp escalation in the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS Sinai affiliate’s campaign of violence against that regime.
