Egyptian strongman Gen. El-Sisi declares his run for president

Defense Minister Abdul-Fattah El-Sisi formally announced Wednesday that he is resigning from the army and running for president in the forthcoming election. No other contender is so far willing to challenge his popularity and run against him. El-Sisi is therefore apt to rided into the presidency uncontested and so consolidate the power accruing to him since he removed the Muslim Brotherhood’s president Mohamed Morsi last summer.
