Egypt’s strongman Gen. El-Sisi sworn in as deputy premier

In another sudden turn of events in Cairo, Defense Minister Gen. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi who led the coup against the Muslim Brotherhood was sworn in Wednesday as Deputy Prime Minister by interim President Adli Mansour  DEBKAfile: This was the general’s response to the mission in Cairo undertaken by US Dep Secy of State William Burns and EU executive Catherin Ashton to persuade Egypt’s military leaders to restore elected civilian rule without delay. Senior Muslim Brotherhood figures announced they are willing to meet Ashton in Cairo – but not the US official.
