Eight injured in knife attack in central Russia
A man armed with a knife attacked people in the central Russian city of Surgut, injuring eight. A police patrol shot the assailant dead. They are trying to identify him and find the motive for the attack.
Surgut is the provincial capital of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, east of the Ural Mountains. It has a population of over 360,000 and is a major oil and gas production center .
