Eighth person arrested by French police over suspected terror plot
The French police on Friday arrested an eighth suspect believed to be linked to the car containing seven gas cylinders that was discovered near the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. It followed Thursday night's arrest of three female suspects in a raid by police counterterror forces on a home in the southwestern suburb of Boussy Saint Antoine. One of the women was shot after she stabbed one of the policemen with a knife. Both the policeman, who was moderately wounded, and the woman were taken to a hospital. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the arrested suspects had planned "new and imminent violent action". According to police sources, the vehicle found near the cathedral belonged to a woman, one of the daughters of an Islamic preacher, who had recently become radicalized and sworn allegiance to ISIS.
