Eisenkott’s first step in politics, hooks up with Gantz

Defense Minister Benny Gantz further expanded his Kahol Lavan ticket on Sunday with Gaby Eisenkott, who succeeded him as IDF Chief of staff in 2015 and has been wavering between options for weeks. He has finally chosen to take his first step in politics with Gantz’s outfit, which was earlier expanded by merging with Justice Minister Gideon Saar’s New Hope party. The new alliance is likely to be branded National Camp to attract a center right following. Gantz’s second new acquisition on Sunday was a right-wing Yamina defector, Matan Kahana, deputy religious affairs minister in the outgoing government. The former army chief will appear in third spot on the new slate, after Ganz and Saar. Kahama’s position is still to be determined.
