El Al cancels flights to China as coronavirus toll rises to 170 deaths

According to rapidly changing figures, up until Thursday, there were 7,753 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 170 deaths, all them occurring in mainland China. Two suspected cases were quarantined in Israel’s Hadera hospital on Wednesday. As the outbreak spread to 19 countries outside China, El Al joined British Airways, Lufthanza and Canadian Airways in cancelling flights to Chinese destinations. A dozen governments, including the US and Japan, have evacuated citizens from the afflicted country. More than 60 million people across China are in lockdown in the effort to contain the spread by restricting transport. Early research points to species of cave bats as being the source of the coronavirus and other deadly diseases.
