More empty threats from Turkey’s Erdogan

The Turkish Armed Forces’ operation in Syria’s Idlib province is almost complete and the next military offensive could target Afrin, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Tuesday, referring to the canton of Syria ruled by the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). “These are threats to us and we will never make concessions to such threats,” he told the Turkish parliament.
DEBKAfile’s military sources: The Idlib operation will never be complete because it never got started. All Turkey did was set up a row of lookout posts just across the Syrian border, but he never embarked on military action. His threat to Afrin is just as hollow: Russian forces are posted there and are too solid a barrier for Turkey to risk an invasion.
