Erdan allows firearms permits for combat and security veterans

Hundreds of thousands of IDF combat veterans who took basic rifle training courses 07, as well as graduates of the Shin Bet’s (Israel Security Agency) course for security guards and the course conducted by Airports Authority for its security personnel, will now be eligible for firearms licenses. Public Safety Minister Gilead Erdan eased gun restrictions since armed civilians on the scene often help the police contain terrorist attacks and reduce casualties – especially in  “lone wolf” incidents.” Erdan at the same time issued new regulations for upgrading firearms training for new license applicants as well as for long-time license-holders. In “high priority” areas, local councils are now authorized to issue firearms permits for the protection of vulnerable communities. In Jerusalem, for instance, the municipal authority is authorized to issue gun permits to teachers at ultra-Orthodox schools.
