Erdogan faces critical test in Turkey’s local elections

The local elections taking place in Turkey Sunday are viewed as a referendum for Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his ruling Justice and Development Party, beset as they are by scandal, corruption and internal controversy – especially after Erdogan banned the Twitter and YouTube social networks. Results will prejudge the AKP’s prospects in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections
