Erdogan’s ruling party leads in local vote early results
According to early poll results, the prime minister Tayyip Erdogan’s AKP has scored a major victory in Turkey’s countrywide local elections with an estimated 46 percent compared with 28 percent for the main opposition CHP party. If this trend is confirmed, Erdogan may feel free to run for president despite the scandal and corruption allegations surrounding his rule. His AKP appears to have held Istanbul but the final results in Ankara were not yet clear early Monday.
