EU President: Catalan independence vote changes nothing

The president of the European Union Donald Tusk said in response to the Catalan parliament’s vote for independence that it changes nothing. This means that the EU does not recognize the new republic as a member separate from Spain. Already some of the economic institutions including banks operating in the EU have announced they are halting operations in the self-proclaimed republic.
