Europeans activate nuclear accord dispute mechanism to warn Iran

France, Germany and the UK, signatories of the 2015 nuclear accord with Iran, have activated their dispute mechanism over repeated Iranian breaches of the deal, triggering the process for its end. Tehran maintained it was acting in response to the new set of US sanctions, an argument rejected by the three European powers.

What about activation of UN sanctions (in top of the US sanctions)?

The UN is spineless operating on a pre-WW2 strategy of appeasement which cost the U.S. trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of dead to win the war and rebuild Europe under the Marshall Plan. I do not recall the Krauts spending one Mark to rebuild any part of the world they destroyed due to their greed and racism. Yet France and several other EU countries cut secret oil deals with Saddam sending him missiles and jets. You can see the photos of the French Mirage jets loaded with ammo and missiles buried in the sand by French Special ops and Saddam with a simple Google search and click on images. The Frogs and Brits and Krauts have been doing the same with Iran and have been caught redhanded.

EU…mmm, still trying to figure out the purpose of this organization.
Just another insane idea like the UN who have outlived their purpose. One is the weakest link while the other is a monster. Both are making this world not a better place to live anymore.

So can somebody put in clean, easy to read, . . . language, . . . just what the heck the meaning of “have activated their dispute mechanism over repeated Iranian breaches of the deal, triggering the process for its end” . . . is all about???

It is about as clear as mud from this perspective.

Eh, this activation is like starting to scratch in that very place (on the replacement prosthetic)
For Iran, all you need is war.

Hi Dwight 55. Debkafile does not quote the dispute mechanism. From what D has written however, and without looking up the agreement, I imagine there is a clause in it that allows one or more of the signatories to trigger a dispute mechamism, instead of just outright reneging on the agreement. The dispute mechanism puts the other side on notice, that unless they begin re-negotiating or unless they are serious about following the agreement (as the case may be) those triggering the dispute mechanism will terminate the agreement from their side. Such dispute mechanisms are valuable because instead of a hard-won treaty just breaking apart, it provides a last chance of re-negotiating and re-adjusting the original agreement.

What is even more interesting is why these three powers have taken this step. Notice Russia is not there, but that is understandable, but also the EU is not there either. These three powers Germany, France and the UK have evidently suddenly got jittery about something that they did not know before.
For some time now the US has taken a different and increasingly hard line with Iran, and as soon as Iran had responded to the takeout of Soleimani by shooting missiles at a US base, Trump increased the economic sanctions on Iran, talked about wanting peace and invited Iran to negotiate instead of war.

The economic sanctions, rather than more missile attacks in response to the Iranian ones, are Trump’s way on putting the screw on nations to bring them to the negotiating table. It is strategy that must finally have an outcome because a country can not function without an income. But in this case, since the Iranian position is always irrational and immoral and inhumane, that outcome could be a do-or-die last ditch attempt to light a nuke somewhere in the West, trusting that their deity will intervene and make them victorious. In fact that seems to be modus operandi generally of those with the extreme form of this theology.

Indeed, now several days after the downing of the Ukraine aircraft, after a day or two of talking reconciliation, Iran is reverting to the old strategy of running the risk of annihilation and provoking the US and the British, French and Germans once again, including threats to their bases in the Middle East.

These three powers were so very sure of their position of still keeping to the agreement and disagreed with the Trump position of fighting down the current clerical regime of Iran. To turn 180 degrees so suddenly suggests that they must have got wind of something that Iran was planning which was so dangerous that they are now prepared to jettison the whole agreement with Iran that took years of negotiation to accomplish. Their actions suggest that they now doubt that Iran could be a reliable partner and want Iran to give up its violent ambitions and weapons grade uranium altogether. The suspicion is therefore that they have some shocking intelligence we may never get to hear about.

Did anyone actually think Iran would keep its word? They started breaking it the moment they got that money from Obama.

Since Donald Trump became President, the EU has placed great store on having one EU-wide common Foreign Policy that differs from and places a check on the Foreigen Policy of the US. Whatever France, Germany and the UK discovered about Iran made the continuation of a foreign policy that was the opposite from the US completely untenable. So although the leaders of Germany and France are not in perfect agreement with Donald Trump on most things, on this score at least, they have taken a little step closer to the US President’s line on Iran.
