Exclusive: Syria empties its air bases, Hizballah withdraws to Lebanon
By Friday night, the Syrian air force had finished evacuating its air bases in readiness for a US led operation, DEBKAfile’s exclusive military sources report. The Mig-29 and Sokhoi 24 air squadrons, Syria’s main air strike force, were moved to Bassel Assad International airport in Latkia and Damascus international airport. Fighter-bomber planes and helicopters were removed to the Nayrab air base outside Aleppo. All three airfields are guarded by Russian and Syrian air defense missile systems. Also Friday, Hizballah began pulling its combatants out of Syria and returning them to their bases in Lebanon – not just to keep them safe from a US raid, but to have them in position in case of a clash with Israel in Lebanon..
