Exit polls give Greek leftist Syriza easy election victory
Alexis Tsipras, leader of the leftist anti-austerity Syriza party, is set to be Greece’s next prime minister according to exit polls Sunday night on the general election. Whether or not he has won a majority in the 150-member parliament will be known when the official count is in Monday. His victory promises to take Greece in a new direction from that of the outgoing Democracy party government. Tsipras campaigned on a pledge to revoke austerity measures and renegotiate the huge debt granted Greece in 2008 to haul the country out of the global financial crisis.
