Explosion on flight between Jeddah, Somalia and Djibouti
Not long after takeoff. a pilot Tuesday safely landed a Daallo Airlines plane that originated in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at Mogadishu Airport, after an explosion blew a hole in one side of the Airbus A321-111. One passenger who fell from the plane was killed and two others injured.
The explosion which occurred 12,000-14,000 feet high occurred over East Africa shortly after takeoff from the Somali airport for Djibouti. Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke did not confirm it was caused by an explosion and promised an investigation. But one source said that initial tests came back positive for explosive residue. There was no claim of responsibility.
