FBI detains Al Qaeda-linked would-be bomber of New York bank
The bank is just blocks from the World Trade Center destroyed by Al Qaeda on 9/11. The suspect, a Bangaladeshi, aged 21, who lives in Jamaica, Queens, was arrested Wednesday driving a van he believed to be loaded with explosives from Long Island to Lower Manhattan. He left the van near the Federal Reserve building and was arrested by the FBI and NYPD.
The FBI stresses that the public was never at risk because the suspect’s two accomplices, with whom he plotted to establish an al Qaeda cell in New Yorkj, were in fact FBI agents taking part in a string operation with NTPD. The explosives, they say, were not real.
