FBI reveals “quid pro quo deal” offer over Clinton’s email classification
According to 100 documents released Monday by the FBI, a State Department official “pressured” the Federal Bureau to change the classification of a Hillary Clinton email on the Benghazi affair as a “quid pro quo.” The FBI official at the International Operations Division, whose name was redacted, reported that the request was made by Under Secretary of State Patrick Kennedy, who asked the bureau to unclassify the message so that it could archived “never to be seen again.” In return, State offered to allow the FBI to place more agents in countries where they were forbidden.
The email in question described reports in November 2012 that Libyan police were arresting suspects in the attacks on the Benghazi consulate two months earlier, which left US Ambassador Stephens and three other Americans dead.
According to the official the FBI said it did not agree to the request and did not change the email’s classification level.
