Fighting closes Jordan’s only working crossing to Syria
Following heavy clashes between rebels and government forces on the Syrian side of the border, the Jordanian government spokesman announced that the Nasib crossing was closed late Tuesday. Nasib was the only working gateway between the two countries and served Syrian and Jordanian officials and traders. It is situated on the main highway between Amman and Damascus. DEBKAfile: Syrian rebels, if they gained control of Nassib, would be able to cut off the main land route from Syria to Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries and gain free access to Jordan.
