Fines doubled for not wearing face masks

The coronavirus ministerial cabinet decided on Monday to keep the economy on track for recovery from the covid-19 crisis. Instead, the rising level of infection will be combated by stepping down hard on enforcing health rules. The fine for people caught without face masks is to be doubled to 500 shekels ($145) and places of business closed for lax adherence to the rules. Deputy Police Commissioner Ziv Sagiv said that police officers will be out and about on public transport, road traffic, taxis, night clubs and restaurants to enforce the rules with penalties.
The Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee holds a special session on Tuesday. On its agenda is endorsement of the raised fine and the type of technology to be approved for tracking infection – a commercial application, if it is up to the mark, or the Shin Bet’s system, if is not.
