First coronavirus death in United States

The first American victim to die of coronavirus was a woman in her 50s with underlying health problems in Washington state’s King County. Vice President Mike Pence announced additional travel restrictions affecting Iran, Italy and Korea. Flanked by President Donald Trump, he told a special news conference that the ban would extend to foreign nationals who had visited Iran in the past 14 days. Four new cases detected by Friday brought to 19 the number of people testing positive for covid-19 in the United States to 19. Trump said that among the steps planned for fighting the spread of the viral infection, the administration was considering closing the US-Mexican border.

As coronavirus continued to spread in Europe, the number of victims in France crossed the 1,000 line and Italy reported the death toll had climbed to sixty.
