First Hamas rockets hit Ashkelon. Three slightly hurt in Sderot synagogue

The ferocious Hamas rocket barrage against Israeli communities Saturday hit the first major town, Ashkelon, and four-member family injured by shrapnel in direct hit to a Sderot synagogue.  Sirens alerted Ashkelon to a number of falling rockets, at least one of which was intercepted by Iron Dome. Up to 100 rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip during the day; 15 were intercepted by Iron Dome batteries. Israel launched 45 air strikes on Hamas targets, including two terror tunnels. One was exposed when a multistory building was razed in Gaza City. The Palestinians reported two fatalities. Incendiary balloons and kites tossed over from Gaza caused 11 fires on Israeli land, including two in the Gvar’am forest. The security cabinet meets Sunday to decide how to address the new escalation from the Gaza Strip.
