First joint US-Russian air strike in Syria under Trump’s presidency

US and Russian bombers conducted a joint sortie Monday, Jan. 23 against ISIS targets in the eastern Syrian town of Deir ez-Zour. More details to come.  On Jan. 15, five days before Donald Trump was sworn in as president, DEBKAfile forecast exclusively that one of his first actions upon entering the White House would be to approve a joint US-Russian operation against the Islamic State in Syria.
