First reading for “Deri Law” to restore the debarred minister to office

The Knesset Wednesday passed its first reading of the law designed to restore Aryeh Deri to his posts of Interior and Health Minister after he was disqualified by the High Court in view of his criminal record. The measure won 62 ayes against 53 nos. It spells out the coalition’s contention that denies the High Court the power to rule on “any matter connected with or arising from a ministerial appointment.”
