One dead, 6 injured in stabbing after car explosion in central Melbourne

Counter-terror police of Melbourne, Australia, were alerted early Thursday after a car exploded on Bourne Street following by multiple stabbings in a feared terrorist rampage. Witnesses reported that a man tossed a bomb into his own truck, then stabbed at least 7 people on the street and swung his knife against police officers as well.  One of the injured victims has died. Bystanders kept the attacker at bay until police shot him. The gunman later died in hospital and the incident is being treated as a terrorist attack.
